5 Common Types of Clutter That May Be Holding You Back

We believe it’s helpful to define the 5 different types of clutter. As you may know, not all clutter is the same, and when trying to declutter and organise your space, it’s crucial to understand the differences between each type. This understanding can help you make decisions about how to handle the clutter, whether it’s through organization, donation, or addressing any emotional challenges. Additionally, understanding the various types of clutter can give you insight into your own tendencies and behaviors. For example, perhaps you tend to accumulate too many shoes or equipment for various hobbies. By understanding these behaviors, you can make better decisions in the future to avoid accumulating clutter. In this guide, we’ll be covering the 5 common types of clutter and providing tips on how to identify and tackle each one.

Here is the 5 common types of clutter :

    • Craft items
    • “I might need it one day” items

2. ABUNDANCE CLUTTER

    • Large toys that don’t fit back in the toy cupboard
    • Items that can’t be put away because their “home” is too cluttered

4. ASPIRATIONAL CLUTTER

Defined as: Items with potential.

    • Water skis (for when you get around to taking those lessons)
    • An exercise bike (in case you get motivated)
    • Cookbooks (for those dinner parties you’ve always wanted to host)
    • Fabric and quilting magazines (for the quilt you’ve never learned to make)

5. SENTIMENTAL CLUTTER

Defined as: Items with memories.

    • Photographs
    • Baby Booties/Blanket
